Desk converter
A riser placed on top of an existing desk that lifts the keyboard and monitor to standing height without replacing the desk.
A desk converter, sometimes called a standing desk riser, sits on top of a regular desk and lifts a section of it, usually the keyboard and monitor, up to standing height. Most models fold flat or lower back down for sitting, so the same surface serves both positions without moving the desk itself.
Converters are the lower cost and lower commitment route into standing while working, since there is no frame to install and no need to replace furniture that already fits the room. Two-tier versions keep the keyboard tray lower than the monitor shelf, which helps keep wrists closer to neutral instead of typing on a single raised platform.
The trade-off is desk depth and stability. A converter takes up existing desk space and adds height on top of it, so a desk that was already a tight fit can feel cramped once one is installed. Cheaper converters can also wobble more than a full standing desk frame, which is worth weighing against a dedicated sit-stand desk if budget and space allow it.
